"The philosopher Erich Fromm forecasted a society based on the obsession with possessions. He believed that humans had two guidelines: HAVING and BEING. A person with a guide to HAVING seeks to acquire and possess things, property, even people. But a person with an orientation BEING focuses on the experience from which they derive meaning to donate, engage and share with others. Unfortunately, Fromm provided a culture driven by materialism and commerce as we live in today. It is ordered to the orientation of HAVING, which leads to disatisfaction and emptiness. When we consider that in 60's there was no such thing as "self storage" in the United States and today there are over 600 million square meters dedicated to it, makes us think that Fromm was right."
